Today I was very happy to read MacRumors.com, as I noticed two news articles I thought were very encouraging.
First, Apple acknowledges the discoloration. This is a very good thing, and for a cosmetic problem, I thought would be almost impossible. Basically the problem must have been so bad that it must have been such bad PR for Apple that they simply decided to fix it just to shut everyone up. I’d call it a smart move. So now if you have a discoloration problem with your unit, they’ll replace the top for you with something that doesn’t stain, or at least not as easily.
And secondly, the well known moo problem seems to have been solved for some users by resetting the PMU. While it’s probably a half-assed solution really, I see a firmware update coming up, very soon.
Those problems shouldn’t have actually occured in the first place, but for a brand new design, not just a different chip, but a whole new design, I guess you could expect rev A to be problematic. I’d expect rev B to be much better, and hopefully they’ll also nail the heat problems by then (by using a better chip? I don’t know)
So, I’m happy they fixed that problem now that I’m getting my Macbook next week, so I don’t have to start whining about the discoloration.
Thanks Apple!
