Photographic Filters are Dead?

— dushkin
@22:07

Recently I’ve been out looking for red filters for Black & White photography.

Pretty much all the stores I went to, obviously, had the well known UV filter which they tend to stick on the end of every camera for the extra money and polarizers which are there for a similar reason.

Everywhere I went, those were the only filters. Obviously, with the expection of Foto C. But Foto C have everything - that’s the point. Even then, Foto C only had an R8 filter.

So I looked online to find some more information abut filters, with a chart and everything summarizing the whole thing. Guess what - nothing. It’s as if nobody uses filters.

True, the effects that the filters generate can now be easily replicated, but it’s just not the same! Traditional photography has been in the process of slowly dying, but is it that bad? Well. I sure hope not.

I guess the artistic value will always be there…

First Piece Auctioned (successfully)

— dushkin
@21:02

My experience with auctioning my work was so far pretty lame. Well, at least until last Thursday.

First came “FUYU”, a piece which I liked a lot, that I auctioned and failed miserably. Not even one bid, not one. I ended up selling it to someone for 100 Kroner (if I recall correctly) which is around $17. I was happy that now someone else had it, that is to say, that it reached its final purpose.

Similarly, one of my prints was auctioned and sold in an event at the American Ambassador’s Residence. The auction started at 200 Kroner for most pieces. The piece I chose was a 21×29 (A4) print of Three Lamps. Paspartout’ed and framed. Sold to someone - sorry, I can’t remember the name! - for 650 Kroner, that is $113. Not bad.

I had a few “custom orders” and I sold several works in the past, but having my piece auctioned is different, and not to mention the high price.

The piece was in fact donated for the auction, that is to say that I haven’t seen a single krone out of it, although I did get to eat some Pizza and hang out with a bunch of old drunk people. My type of fun. (Note: I’m not referring to anybody)

So, I’m hoping for some more auctions, orders and exhibitions.

Snow!

— dushkin
@11:08

Oh, look, it’s snowing.

Just as I began to think that global warming was really starting to show, it began to snow early this morning.

Funny. Last year (and the year before?) it was already snowing back in December, I recall. Though I could be wrong. I don’t know.

So what I’m really looking forward to seeing Fældeparken begin to fill up with snow, until eventually, giving me the shot that I’ve been waiting for 8 months. Now I just need a model.

It’s the same problem all over again, great idea for a movie though not actors; great idea for a shot though no models. If only I had someone who was willing to do those things..

Well, I’ll check next week what it’s like over there, bring my tripod and I guess at the worst case, photograph myself.
