So when I want to talk to them, I don’t want to talk through my character. Sometimes I just want to chat with the people. Is there something so wrong with that?
Not much. I do (did) the same myself in the appropriate channels - ones where the participants agreed are out of character. Whispers, custom channels, etc.
Second, you contradicted yourself, or so that’s the way I see it. You complain about not being able to kill people, then you go on to complain about how there are “No consequences?” Last time I checked, murder has consequences.
Yes, there are no consequences and that is my point. Murder is a consequence when it actually happens and is carried out in a manner befitting murder/death in general namely that you do not get back up. Resurrection is not very easy as the game makes it look. I am not contradicting myself.
I actually put a lot of thought into each character I make. I consider their personality, appearance, history, etc. I’m not going to put all this work into a character just to have it killed by some attention-starved, twelve year old idiot.
Yet another issue that I understand, there are far too many annoying kids in this game. For the single most popular MMOG in the industry, it is actually not as bad as it would seem. Still, those do occur on roleplaying realms. My tip is to not roleplay with them, much like how I avoid the DotA crowd. (Not a bad game, but a terrible community). At the end of the day we agree, really. And I enjoy both RP in WoW as well as the game. But this is a piece that discusses the "dark" side of roleplaying as it stands. I look forward to coming back to it soon™ when Cataclysm hits (or a little before that).

Hi Swif,

First of all, I have some friends on RP realms. WoW is very RP-unfriendly and griefers suck. But the gameplay is still fun, and if you can find the right people and use enough creativity, RP can be too.

I agree with some of your points, but…man…

First of all, I have some friends on RP realms. First off, the game was not made for just RP...Thus blizzard added things that attract many different players. Yes, they have capture the flag. This appeals to the people that enjoy doing PVP. There are PVP servers too. But it is not like they are going to take out that type of battleground for RP servers just because it 'doesn't fit'.Going out of character is the will of the player. Why not allow they to go out of character when they don't feel like rping at that moment? Some people enjoy all aspects of the game. It seems to me that all -you- are looking for is a game simply for RP. Of course, World of Warcraft isn't for you.World of Warcraft RP. People enjoy being creative in their own way. If you think it is stupid, then oh well, that is your own opinion. If they are having fun with it, it doesn't matter. It is a game. That is what it is meant for.

I disagree with a few of your points. You might laugh out loud at first, but sooner or later this cruel realization strucks you that in fact, it's all too true. And then you'll keep laughing, but with tears in your eyes. Of course, I understand that arabic countries need to pay extra-attention with tourists and travllers and whatnot, but still, what you said, it's a little bit of an over-compensation. I mean, dogs, fine. But guns?! Are they planning to shoot the demo-man before he spontanously explodes? If you do have tons upon tons of personel in one travel station (train, plane, whatever), isin't it easier to gang-jump any suspicious guy before he gets any ideas? No wait, cut that out.One way or another, be glad you're not in a few certain american airports. The situation there is downright absurd. I mean it. They want to scan your socks for explosive material residue.
